Minerals and metals play a significant role in creating products and services we use in our day-to-day life. However, finding the natural resources of these metals and minerals is becoming increasingly difficult.

The Gawler Challenge invites innovators to interrogate a world class open-file datasets and innovate in the area of data and geology to help uncover new mineral discoveries. The challenge is to identify or predict areas of potential mineralisation within the Gawler region, using any technique.

The challenge is by South Australian Government and is open globally for both professional and student innovators.

Competition Launch: 2nd March at 3pm EST (Launch time related to live launch event in Toronto)
Competition Close: 31st July at 11:59pm GMT
Winners Announced: mid-September

Prizes will be awarded in the following order:
1st prize: $100,000 awarded for the best overall submission.
Runner up (2nd) Prize: $50,000
1st Student Prize: $20,000
Data Prep: $5,000 x 4 awarded for best data cleaning and data engineering
Breaking New Ground: $15,000 awarded for the best approach for generating targets in under explored areas
Future Data: $15,000 awarded for best approach to inform future data collection
Rock Licker: $15,000 awarded for the best use of geochemistry or mineralogy
Under Cover: $15,000 awarded for best approach to find deposits under cover
